Fashion's Night Out returns in more places

　　You didn't get your cocktail poured by guest bartenders Mary-Kate or Ashley Olsen at the first Fashion's Night Out? This year, you could try tailgating with Tommy Hilfiger.

　　The second annual shopping event, created largely by Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour to fuel retail traffic in stores during the height of the fall shopping season, is planned for Sept 10 during New York Fashion Week.

　　The fashion party, which focused on New York last year, is now global with nearly 1,000 retailers, designers, beauty brands and celebrities offering special events or discounts. Events are also planned in Australia, China, Greece, India, Russia and Turkey,the north face sale, among other countries.

　　Some consumers will hear musical performances; other shoppers will be fed. Fashion insiders will give a Hollywood makeover to some shoppers, and some will go home with bags of freebies or special-edition merchandise.

　　You’d be forgiven for thinking, like me, that Selfridges new "Shoe Galleries" could win the prize for the most self-important shoe shop moniker. But,arc'teryx sidewinder, like me, you might want to think again.

　　Saturday was my first visit to Selfridges on Oxford Street for some time, and although I’ve heard some chatter about the impending launch of the world’s biggest shoe department, I must have successfully filtered it out to any great degree. So when I came blustering out of the car park and found myself smack-bang in middle of their new shoe empire, for a moment I was totally disorientated. Gone the harsh lighting, bright white shiny surfaces and chaotic displays, replaced by beautiful parquet flooring, dimmed lights and the kind of sales assistants you usually see in the chicest Bond Street boutiques.

　　Then there’s the shoes. Let’s state one thing up front here. If you have any kind of shoe "collecting"-related issue, you must never go here. I am not now, and never have been a shoe person, but it’s like they knew I was coming. New CEO wants retailer to target homeowners doing

　　When Laura J. Alber was named chief executive officer of Williams-Sonoma in January,arc'teryx alpha sv jacket, she got some advice from the company's 94-year-old founder, Charles E. While a slump in home buying means less demand for couches, espresso machines, and bed linen, Alber is counting on Americans to renovate the homes they have. 　　During her tenure at Pottery Barn from 2002 to 2006, Alber oversaw an expansion from 172 stores to 289. Alber's big challenge, he says: finding good store sites. Since West Elm appeals to urbanites, its stores require prime street addresses that are harder to come by than space in a mall.

Her company dominates home furnishings online, with $943 million in Web sales last year, more than triple that of its nearest rival, Crate & Barrel, says Matt Nemer, a Wells Fargo analyst.

　　Williams-Sonoma's exclusive merchandise makes it "Amazon-proof," Nemer says, because shoppers can't easily compare prices on the Web. And the 52 million names the retailer has collected partly through its catalog operation give it marketing punch. For example, it used data collected on buyers of its cribs to later sell toddler and twin beds, then teen goods, and now items in Pottery Barn's dorm catalog.

　　Still, the retailer faces plenty of challenges. Williams-Sonoma Home, which sells luxury home goods,arc teryx stingray jacket, is struggling. Klutziness has its advantages

　　My mom told me that, when I was a toddler, I was often so busy looking around at other things that I wouldn't watch where I was going. That would often result in my colliding with solid objects, like walls.

　　Unfortunately for my bruised and battered body, not much has changed. Case in point: I can be walking along, minding my own business, when I suddenly trip, which usually ends in a fall, injury or a loss of whatever various items I was carrying. Was there anything to trip over? Likely not.

　　My friends call me a klutz,arc teryx stingray jacket, which means I am maladroit, a walking disaster and an accident waiting to happen.

　　My purse is full of Band-Aids, ibuprofen and triple antibiotic ointment. I nearly always sport at least a few bruises. I also frequently have bandages on my hands, which makes it difficult to use the fine motor skills that I have been honing since infancy, leading me to drop more things.
